General News

Here’s the latest update on the last meeting on the base pay negotiations between the Labour Union and the Government.

After countless fruitless tries to attain an agreement, the conference for discussions on the 2023 Base Pay between the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Public Service Workers (Labour Unions and Associations) continued on December 13, 2022.

According to reports from the meeting, the government remains steadfast in its proposed 18% base pay increase, but labor unions and associations have refused to accept the offer.

In a more thoughtful move, the Organized Labor Union has reduced its proposed Base Pay from 60% to 58% in an attempt to meet the Government halfway.

The Labour Unions underlined their reasons for refusing to back down, citing economic hardship and the massive tariffs now levied on products and services in the country.

This has made them quite harsh about their position and the percentage consideration.

The discussion ended inconclusively once more since the parties concerned were unable to achieve an equitable conclusion.

The negotiations and debates have been postponed to Monday, December 19, 2022.
