News In: All Basic Schools to remain in school for an extra week for the maiden National Standardised Test– Check Details

The Ghana Education Service has released a statement informing all the basic schools across the country to remain in school for another week from the actual vacation date.

This extra one week duration in school is to facilitate the maiden National Standardised Test for Primary Four students.

According Ghana Education Service the National Standardised Test for P4 will be written on the 17th of December 2021.

The maiden standardized test will have 470,768 Primary 4 Public School pupils writing from 15,391 schools nationwide and about 2,850 Examination centres which will comprise 200 pupils per centre.

As a result all Basic schools will vacate on the 17th December, 2021

“The extra one week will be compensated for during the next academic year to ensure students and teachers enjoy the number of weeks of vacation period.” GES stated.

According to the minister of Education, Dr. iAdutwum, the test does not only seek to improve learning outcomes but also reduce learning poverty across the country.

According to him, pupils waiting eleven years before they sit for their first national exams, Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), makes it too late to rectify the vast literacy poverty recorded yearly.

As such, periodic national exams on primary students will give the Ghana Education Service the amble time to intervene in the lives of the children.
