The Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Pre-tertiary, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has revealed that the duration for SHS students vacation in the 2020/2021 academic year will be reduced to cover lost instructional hours due to COVID-19.
Speaking in an interview with the Kumasi-based FM Station, Wontumi 101.3, Dr Yaw Adutwum disclosed that the vacation of the students currently at home in the next academic year will be reduced. He said:
So maybe a two (2) months vacation in the 2020/2021 academic year will be reduced to 1 and a half month or even a month to cover all lost the instructional hours amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of Ghana government’s measures to fight the coronavirus, all schools in the country closed down. President Akufo Addo seeing the reduction in the COVID-19 spread after some months, directed some levels of schools in the country to resume.
Schools have currently reopened to SHS 2 and JHS 2 students to continue with the 2019/2020 academic year and sit for the end of term examination and vacate on December 14, 2020. Schools will be reopened to learners in kindergarten, primary, JHS 1 and SHS 1 students in January 2021.
