UEW Kumasi Campus to become a University on its own


The Government has undertaken procedures to convert the University of Education, Winneba, Kumasi Campus into the University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development.

This will give UEW the authorization of training teachers in Practical Skills and Entrepreneurship.

The Bill that will allow the discussion went through the Second Reading in Parliament on Friday.

As per the Minister of State in-charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwasi Yankah the transformation will equip teachers with the required skills.

“It will bring into focus the relevance of technical and vocational training to national development and the need to achieve national development in that regard”.

He said the university will improve to the level of awarding Doctorate Degrees in technical and vocational training thereby giving a workforce with the requisite skills

In addition, he said; “This will undoubtedly increase productivity, encourage investment as well, reduce unemployment, and improve the socio-economic sector of the country,”
