The Ghana Education Service and the Ghana Health is today Wednesday holding a meeting with the West African Examinations Council on how SHS students who have tested positive for COVID-19 will sit for the 2020 WASSCE for school candidates scheduled for August this year.

The Director-General of GES who disclosed this on Onua TV’s Maakye show monitored by Georegweb.org Wednesday, July 15, 2020, said the meeting will be attended by representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service and the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa noted that the fact that they have tested positive for the novel coronavirus does not mean they must not sit for the examination.

“The WASSCE is starting next week and what we need is to see who is going to write the examination and how they will write. So that is why I am going to meet WAEC and health experts today,” he said as quoted by 3news

He furthered that “when a candidate is sick and is rushed to the hospital during an examination, the exams papers are sent to the student to write the examination at the hospital and that is what we are meeting today over the issue”.

Kwasi Opoku Amankwa explained that a student will not be able to write the examination if he or she has broken down but as it stands now, none of the students is broken down.
